Lombok - A New Bali?

Being only an hours' flight or about 3 hours by ferry from Bali, Lombok is becoming increasingly popular. Currently there are 8 airlines that operate out of Lombok International Airport. The airport offers nonstop flights to 6 cities and has at least 180 domestic flights and 3 international flights depart from Lombok each week.

The Gili Islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air) off the North Western coast of Lombok Island, are also very popular. They are relaxed and offer snorkeling around stunning reefs where tropical fish eat from your hands, pristine beaches and a very relaxed atmosphere. Gili Trawangan has cycle or horse and cart trips around the island for something different. Lombok is home to the second tallest volcano in Indonesia, Mount Rinjani which sits just shy of 3,800m above sea level, and some amazing waterfalls in the island's national parks.

The Sasak people are the root of Lombok. Sade village is the home of the Sasak people. There, you can see their traditional houses of clay, bamboo and grass, and tradition that they still preserve today. This includes weaving and a unique marriage tradition, along with 'Peresehan', a unique martial art practiced by many in the small community.
